The Lane Vineyard has been the custodian of an enviable piece of pristine Adelaide Hills terroir since the first vines were planted in 1993. Sitting 450m high atop the rolling hills adjacent the Onkaparinga Valley, the vineyards enjoy the warm days and cool nights that the Adelaide Hills Wine Region is so famous for.
Fresh, vibrant and textural. A contemporary cool-climate Chardonnay picked from the Block 1A vineyard, displaying orange blossom, grapefruit and green apple with a crunchy and flinty finish.
Block 1 is a step up in quality from The Lane’s regional series as fruit has been sourced from one of their favourite vineyards with barrel ferment and ageing used to very good effect. But don’t think this is an oaky style with the wood influence quite restrained and well matched to cool climate fruit aromas. Pale in colour, this is already showing well with melon, citrus and floral aromas lifted by spicy, understated oak. It’s a modern, acid driven style that is linear right now but you also get a strong feeling that it will build more texture and weight with time in the bottle. Attractive concentration and length round out what is a very respectable Adelaide Hills Chardonnay.
Gorgeously elegant and splendidly styled, the wine shows white flesh nectarine, lemon pith, nougat, roasted cashew and oatmeal characters on the nose, leading to a concentrated palate offering terrific weight and persistency. Richly textured and brilliantly structured, finishing impressively long and creamy.
