Terraced Hills Pinot Noir 2018 - Adelaide Hills
Alive with scents of licorice, plum and blackcurrant. Medium bodied with lovely freshness that keeps the mouth filling plump palate of cherries, strawberries and raspberries in check. Its texture is soft and suave with fine tannin structure.
Savoury bramble and subtle earthy spiced notes on the nose. The palate is juicy and vibrant with warm plum compote, earthy and sweet spiced notes.
How was it made?
Conditions were dry during early winter with welcome rains in late July through August. Spring canopy growth was slow due to a cold spring, however soil temperatures rose steadily resulting in even growth. January, February and April were warmer than normal but excellent cooling off during the evenings enabled ideal night temperatures for colour and flavour development. A long slow ripening, resulted depth of flavour and colour.
Terraced Hill's minimalist making continues with whole berry and 15% whole bunch natural ferment in small open top ferments, soft pump overs, basket pressed and bottled unfiltered.
12 months ageing in 15% new Chassin French oak barrels with balance in ex white Francois Frères French oak barrels.
Who made it?
Torzi Matthews is a food and winemaking partnership between Domenic Torzi and Tracy Matthews which began in 1996 when they stumbled across a small, frost-pocketed hollow in the beautiful Mt McKenzie, Eden Valley and fell in love with the area for its remoteness and its diverse thin soils. Domenic and Tracey run the winery with one guiding principal: that their land produce low yields of fruit which in turn translate into flavoursome European style wines – the style of wines needed to match their Mediterranean heritage and food.

Really like this. It’s cherry and plum, a little bit earthy or has a ‘mineral’ thing happening, subtle pencil/vanilla oak and mint. Medium-bodied, fleshy and fine tannin, a softness and velvet charm, pretty long and gently savoury to close. Delivers so much Pinot satisfaction for the money.
