Hurley Vineyard Lodestone Pinot Noir 2019 (Balnarring, Victoria)
Lodestone is Hurley's north-facing site, warmest site, picked earliest, producing Pinots with the most richness and density.
The colour is typically pale for Hurley, belying the power beneath. The fruit is on the darker spectrum with brambly, earthy characters, and some biscuitty oak showing at this young stage of its life. It has great, great length.</p.
Lodestone is essentially a natural magnet, the magnetised iron ore Magnetite, which is abundant throughout the vineyard soil.
From The Producer
This is entirely from selected barrels of Lodestone. The fruit was harvested by hand on 1 and 2 March 2019, fermented under the action of indigenous yeasts, basket pressed on 22 March 2018 and, after twenty months in barrel (one third new), bottled on 3 November 2019. Closed with Diam cork.
Bright mid-garnet again. Here the nose is focused, intense and brooding with black cherries, cassis and blood plums. The palate is very fine and precise with pure flavours of brambly berries and black cherries plus cake spice and forest floor elements. The texture is seamless and luscious and the tannins ripe and fine. This is harmonious, very lingering and exits super clean. The overall effect is one of intensity and focus. To 2030.
